Email marketing is not as simple as it may seem at first. It can actually take a lot of time and effort to create a quality email list of subscribers.

Use the advice in this post to create an email marketing campaign that will have your audience eagerly awaiting your next email.

1 Write Quality Emails

Any subscriber want’s quality in what they receive, it is the most important part of any email campaign so thought must be given to ensuring that what you are sending to your subscriber list is of the best quality that you can create. Poor quality emails will result in poor opening rates and deletions so make sure that what you are writing about isn’t boring and is very well written.

If you are unsure about how to write engaging emails you should consider signing up to a few lists in the niche that you are working in and looking at the content of the emails. A word of advise though, never copy verbatim anything that someone else has written. You never know if your subscriber is also on the other persons list and that’s just going to make you look fake, also you could face the possibility of legal action.

If you really don’t know what to write, or you don’t feel that you are a good enough and entertaining writer you could also consider hiring someone to write your emails for you at a cost.

Also, never give up, if your first few emails don’t go down too well, you can always learn from the experience and improve your writing.

2 Write Compelling content

Your content must be compelling, it must interest and engage your subscriber to the extent that they have no choice but to read until the end and even look forward to receiving your next email. Similarly, don’t think that you have to keep constantly writing to them if you have nothing of value to say. Avoid sending out lots of low quality emails. Scarcity isn’t a bad thing if the emails you are sending are an interesting read and your subscriber is looking forward to reading them.

3 Be Personal and Be Yourself

It isn’t a bad idea to include in your emails detail about your online life and real world life. Interesting, or funny things that have happened to you since the last email will make your readers connect with you and also trust you. It isn’t all about making money, it’s importantly about making that connection and gaining trust.

Some people think that it’s about the size of your list to make an income online, but this is not the case, it’s all about the relationship that you have with your list. For example, having one person on your list who’s paying you a $29 subscription each month might not sound a lot, but if you grow that list to 50 people then you are looking at almost $1500 per month. So do not think that you need a huge list to make money, it really isn’t the case. Build your list, build value with your list and you will flourish. It is better to have 1000 subscribers on your list engaging with you than 10000 subscribers who care little about your services.

4 Provide an Incentive

You want to make it sound like opting into your email list is a great idea so providing a good quality incentive will encourage more people to subscribe. But also don’t give everything away in your incentive. You want your incentive to be a tease of what’s to come, you want to keep them subscribed and drip feeding your subscribers with further pieces of quality information will surely keep them interested in reading your next email.

What you don’t want is for your subscriber to sign up, take the incentive and then leave your list straight away, you want them to stay with you and keep their interest.

5 Do Not Be Pushy

Whilst you want to be persuasive in convincing your audience to purchase your products and services, you don’t want to come across as being a nuisance to them. If you do, they are just going to unsubscribe. or even worse, report your emails as spam.

Don’t make every email that you send read like a sales advertisement, be subtle when trying to persuade a subscriber to buy. If you don’t know how to do that then you should consider taking an online sales course, or having a copywriter write your emails for you.

6 Make Opting Out Simple

Make your opt-out process as simple as it was for them to sign up, don’t make life difficult for them. Let them leave on a positive, sorry to see you go is as good as it needs to be. Some companies make it next to impossible to unsubscribe, or later add you back onto their email list. Do not give them the chance to tell others that your website is shady since it was so difficult to unsubscribe. Be a decent person and they will respect you for that.

7 Do Not Hit Your Subscribers Up with A 3AM Email!

Many people use their mobile phones to read emails these days, therefore you should consider what time you send out your emails. Being woken up in the middle of the night by an email isn’t going to make your subscriber very happy.

8 Write Back To Your Subscriber

You should always give your subscribers the opportunity to reach out to you and you should take the time to respond back. Be helpful, build that relationship, trust and respect and they will be more than likely to recommend you, buy from you and stay on your list.

These suggestions may seem very basic, but you should follow every one of them because you need to get this right as your entire business is built around these principals. It may take time for you to build a solid email list, by following my advice you can make it a reality and not just something that you are hoping will happen.

To your success.
